DARK GAIA'S PROFILE

I develop games and I write. I have a Bachelor of Arts in creative writing and journalism. I like writing speculative fiction, horror and literary fiction, sometimes all blended together. You can find elements of my writing in my games, because I consider my games to be stories just that happen to have gameplay.

I post updates on my Facebook and Twitter:

Must you pay for RTP games?

Craze, I did NOT edit your posts, Kaz did that. (I edited MINE I will admit) I do not do that at all. It is the first I've heard of it. As for the editing that Reives knows of, I edited out the comment in question so as to not cause any more offense to anybody, not to cover up wrongdoing. Can we just agree to disagree? I'm not one to hold a grudge so I would like it if we could just be civil to each other.
I'm FAR from the "leader" of what you don't like in the RM community. If anything, my development styles and choices are influenced by the accepted norm in the RM community that everyone else follows. If you don't like me, you won't like the RM community as a whole. I don't mean any offense but RMN is in a way the only site that does not embrace modern RMing themes.

As for you being jealous of me Craze... Come on, don't be stupid. Your games are far more well known than mine ever are. If this is what this has been about...
I could simply give the word for my zombie horde to play and enjoy your game.

I'm sorry you don't like me and I accept that, but I at least hope we can be civil to each other for the sake of maintaining some sort of peace and not rabidly flaming each other and causing upset. If you don't like my projects then don't. Obviously we both have different tastes and it is a conflict of interest. I like to make games that are liked by a mainstream audience, you prefer to make more involved ones that as such probably seems inaccessible to most people. This is not to say I follow forumlaic devlopment cliches intentionally. I feel that I have a story to tell and to make a game like Legionwood is the only way to tell it. I couldn't tell a story in a dungeon crawler or a survival horror game could I? Shows how much you know about me anyway as it seems you dislike jRPG projects when in fact that is just one of my projects. I also have One Night which is about as far from a typical VX game as you can get, being a survival horror game with not one appearance of the so hated chibis that catgorize VX games. The fact that you don't like my project shouldn't sully your opinion of me.

I certainly don't like some of your games (as I don't like dungeon crawlers much) but I still have respect for you as someone with good opinions and a lot of RM experience.

Oh so you are choosing to flame me and my forum of choice now? Craze, just because you did not like my game does not mean it is not good. Many other people besides you and besides RRR have played it and enjoy it. I do not restrict myself exclusively to RRR.

Here is the www.rpgmakervx.net topic for One Night: http://www.rpgmakervx.net/index.php?showtopic=8873

Here is the topic for Legionwood at the above: http://www.rpgmakervx.net/index.php?showtopic=6082

As you can see, both are considerably more popular than on RRR.

Even the RMN topics for those games have been recieved quite well and not a bad word about the games in any of them.

Now, for fighting with you, you can have me banned or whatever, but attacking someone like that for no reason is not something that makes me want to stay here on RMN.
If you don't agree with me, fine, state that but there's no need to shit on someone because you do not like their game. (Have you even played the new Legionwood or any of my other games anyway? Can you judge? I thought we were past this.)

The Pan Screen comment was plain below the belt. I have redone that intro and that whole demo, which you only played a pre beta of. Perhaps you should actually play the game before judging eh?

Also, hyperbole means to exaggerate something or blow it up for the purpose of emphasising it. Do not argue with me there.

[Demo] Everything Turns Gray - First Real Demo! & [Short Game] Vermicide

I found that this game exudes an atmosphere that the graphics cannot really detract from. If anything, the graphical inconsistencies make the game seem more gritty.

I do feel however that the VX chibi characters can seem out of place in what is otherwise a dark, serious game, and I'd reccomend using XP graphics instead (It doesn't really bother me much anyway) like I did in One Night.

[Demo] Everything Turns Gray - First Real Demo! & [Short Game] Vermicide

Hi Max, I downloaded Everything Turns Grey yesterday and began to play it and I must say I am pleasantly surprised. It's no big secret that I didn't really enjoy Iron Gaia or Backstage, but this game is really good.

I wouldn't exactly call it a Fallout clone either. It is fun, open ended, and most importantly, exudes true tension and a bleak, lonely atmosphere. You actually feel as if you are wandering a land where a calamity happened long ago.

Forging for unspoiled food is a constant tension, you know you need it to survive, but are you gonna risk getting killed to ensure your survival?

Anywho, great job and I'll be keeping my eye on this one.

Yes, thankysir for the review.

Indie vs. Amateur - an article everyone should read

I think there is a lot of talent in the RM community. I know several RM games that can cause a worry to indie games.

Well, I have been trying hard to not come off as egotisitcal, but I do not see what the fuss has been about. Only people on that site have attacked my posts (aside you but you're not really attacking anyway) while people on RM sites have congratulated me on a great game and a great topic.

I don't make crap games and try to sell them off as great (well I did with Tales Of Worlds) I make good games and give them the promotion and hype they deserve. Aside from the EE comment, I have never said "my game is better than this one" or "my game is the best there is" or anything like that.

If you're taling about lines such as "a thrilling story emphasising character development with 8 intricate characters" and such like that, that isn't egotistical at all, that is just good writing skills/hyperbole.

Legionwood: Tale Of The Two Swords Review

Thanks very much for the honest review. I knew the hard difficulty would always turn some people off, but I did make that choice as I wanted Legionwood to be a thinking man's RPG.

Nah, you don't get penalized for missing; even when the actual Innate misses, it still counts towards your next Innate.

I still think it would be better to lower the requirement for innate skills and balance the power of the skills accordingly. That way, they more dynamically effect the way you plan reloading etc. in each battle; especially since right now reloading isn't really strategic and just happens when it happens. Of course, you can just use Bleed over and over and never have to reload! Which is also a problem depending on how you look at it.

How's about reviewing Legionwood and One Night if you's not already on it. My games are STARVING for attention here on RMN.

Sure, I can review them. I might not turnover a review as quick as usual since I am beta-testing Sore Losers as well right now, but I'll get on it.

Thank you good sir. I'll keep an eye out. Good luck with Sore Losers, I like it already and will certainly play it upon completion!

Ugh, okay, but did anyone notice how the other people, who WEREN'T familiar with RPG Maker games outside of EE, Aveyond and mine and Reive's games, just got so defensive about EE and immediately thought it was a lot better purely because it was commercial as opposed to mine which wasn't.

The fact is that my game is a free game but even so I like to present a nice looking topic for it and sell it off as a good game, just like anyone else. I made the mistake of saying that in my own opinion it was better than EE which I shouldn't have done.

It's just funny IMO that the only people who opposed that comment were people who weren't RMers themselves ie EE's target market.
Everybody on other RM sites has agreed with the comment whole heartedly.
